PEACE

so many times

when fear has attempted

to take over situations

that are out of my control…

When someone is in need,

I envision God’s angel

covering them

creating

their very own

Angel Teepee.

…

He will cover you with his feathers,

And under his wings

You will find refuge;

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night,

Nor the arrow that flies by day,

Nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,

nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side,

Ten thousand at your right hand,

But it will not come near you.

Psalms 91:4- 

Josephine reminds us

that the safest place on earth

is in the Shadow of His wings

and that if we call on the Lord

He will send angels

to encamp around us

to protect us

and deliver us from all our fears.

So pitch a tent

in His hope filled presence

and enjoy the peace

promised to you!

For he will command his angels concerning you

to guard you in all your ways…

Psalms 91:11

Praying

this vision

gives hope to all

who are battling

the shadows of fear and hopelessness.

His Blessing

in all the seasons

What a comfort to my soul!

Hoping you enjoy this Baker’s dozen

of heavenly beings.

I imagined their dresses

created with life-giving leaves

and their wings with whispers

of earthly treasures…

forgotten and now found…

a translucent daisy,

a bird soaring,

remnants of grass

where giddy laughter was had.

What a gift to be in the midst

of His unseen appointed angels …

hovering…

and guarding our every step.

May we rest in knowing

He is watching over us.

“He will cover you with His feathers.

Under His wings you will find refuge.”

speed bump or two!

Trusting

in the letting go

and allowing God

to take the lead

into the unknown.

It seems the best work

surfaces when

I just plain 

step out of the way … 

getting out of my head 

and into my heart… 



the place where all 

of 

His Hidden Treasures 

are held.

Experiencing an up close

and personal moment

with the One

who created me.

He is truly

the great Creator

within…

As an artist…

the best thing I can do

is to Let Go

and

Let Him Be

FREE

in me.

of me

every

single

day
by the

Master Himself…

these flowers

gathered

from the garden
truly grabbed my innards…
and said…
‘let’s ponder these
for a while
in paint’

It 
quietly drew me

to an

embedded reminder…

that we were
“Born to Bloom”
A colorful nudge

to fragrantly rise

towards that…

“bigger than life bouquet”…

spreading

brightness and JOY

wherever we find ourselves

planted.

Seeking for

more wonder

from

this pondering pond…

a room appeared…

where flowers float

in wallpapered skies…
 baseboards beam
with sunny rays
and grass becomes

the new

shag carpet rage .

I sensed

the imagination

was just getting started…

without a sound…

a bird

eased into the canvas…

becoming a tree…
providing a nest

for those wallflowers

that fly
and may need a rest.

And then

this little bird

took a 180 degree

“about face”

and turned herself

into a

Southern Belle

wearing her best

Kentucky Derby Floral Headdress.

So, now you officially

have traveled

down the rambling road

within the  mind of an artist.

One being…

a visual reminder

of His covering and protection.

a quirky memento

of the world’s peculiar focus

during this

‘shelter in place’ season.

One can sense the struggle

is real

between the two…

but both question where my head is stationed.

Do I fixate on what

ShakesFEAR…

to the One

who equips 

and

ShakeSPEARs…

The bell goes off…

The wrestling match begins..

there’s Fear the Lyinazz …

in one corner

and Laugh Turiz

chuckling in the other…

the whistle blows …

and Laugh Turiz pins Fear’s Azz to the ground …

(Yes… this is how my brain plays)

It’s in these moments that I realize

the battle has already been won.

It’s in these moments

I am oh so thankful for

the sweet and gentle Spirit

that infuses some truthful levity

into my wrestling matches…

around their gloomy corners…

the skies seem to be more radiant

floating with clouds

that lift the wonders

within our deepest thoughts….

In an instant,

one recognizes

the true qualities in life…

have been right in front of us all along…

our family,

our friends,

our well being…

the joy in the song of a bird…

it seems their songs

have become more beautiful …

the grass appears greener

The Cardinal journey

began as a gift

painted for dear friends

who lost their sweet son…

Jenny said

every time she thought of Jack…

a cardinal

would fly by…

and felt it was a sign from above.

So, I decided

to capture that sweet thought

in red paint

so they could always have a cardinal

nesting in their home.

Since then,

it has evolved from original art…

to printed

greeting cards…

and now into beautifully woven

linen threads…

with the desire

of literally

wrapping up

in a prayerful cloth

and settling

right on in

to a story

of HOPE. 

Why not wrap yourself

our best friends lost their sweet son …

I cannot grasp the depth of grief

they have learned to lean into since then…

Jack touched so many hearts.

It was a privilege to be a part of his life.

They will tell you…

that their faith

has carried them through

this difficult season.

They will tell you…

that they look intensely

for God’s messages of hope

and any signs of light

that can help them through

each day,

each hour,

each moment…

They will tell you…

God

has comforted them greatly

through His word, His people and His creations around.

One of these comforts that seems to touch Jenny’s heart

is

the red cardinal…

She says…

every time she thinks of Jack…

a cardinal appears!

Of course…

this sweet message just had to be painted!

So… I ventured into the land of red paint

and discovered a few interesting thoughts to ponder

while attempting to capture this little bird

on a canvas for my friend.

Did you know?

CARDINALI

(latin)

means chief…

hence the impressive Indian head-dress

that crowns the top of its red head…

CARDINIS

(latin)

relates to the hinge of a door

or the pivot to turn the hinge…

it is what allows a door to swing open…

and is originally derived

from crux or cross…

CARDO

(greek)

also means heart…

CARDINAL

(adjective)

indicates a matter of great importance

Could it be…

that the Cardinal comes

to remind us

that our loved ones

have passed through the (hinged) door

of this life on earth

and into the heart of our

Chief

Creator of all things?

Could it be…

that the One who carried the cross…

is the One who stands at the door

ready and waiting to hinge the door open

for His children to cross?

Could it be…

that your heart’s cry

is of great importance…

So much so,

that a tiny feathered messenger

was sent

to comfort you and say…

‘they are with me’.

May we remember

to look towards the One

who opens and closes

the doors of our hearts

when we’re feeling

HEAVY…

May we add

an E,N and an L

to that feeling…

and let our burdens be lifted

like the red bird in flight…

and turn the heavy

into the

HEAVenlY…

THE CARDINAL

a sign to those

left tending this earth…

a song for the heart

and all of its hurts…

a note to revive

the truth of His word…

the red cardinal

soars above as it sings…

the red cardinal

lifts

our hearts

with red wings.

As a tribute to Jack and his family…

I painted many cardinals as a loving reminder

of those who have gone ahead of us.

His family would like to raise awareness

of the opioid and heroin epidemic

that is attempting to overtake our country

and attacking our children.

A percentage of the proceeds of these cardinals

will be given to MusiCares Foundation

to help loved ones

struggling with addiction

be able to afford a recovery program.

Jack was an incredibly gifted guitar player

and played with a red pic.

A red guitar pic can be found embedded in several

of the cardinals in memory of his gift

in playing the guitar

like a boss.

P.S… The cardinal does not migrate like the other birds!
